Every year or two, there's another child welfare atrocity in Colorado. The system fails, a child dies a horrible, but frequently preventable death and there are calls for sweeping reform — calls that have remained largely unanswered.

Who says money and the right connections will always prevail? Sports Authority and the Denver Broncos had all the money and connections in the campaign to install bright red signs on the swooping metal band around the football stadium, yet they were still outmaneuvered by a doughty band of neighborhood leaders.
