Avalanche beats Kings 2-1 in shootout
The Kings entered Monday night's game with the Avalanche 4-0-2 in their six games under new coach Darryl Sutter, but they lost to the Avalanche 2-1 in a shootout at the Staples Center.

The Broncos on Monday learned who they'll face next season, home and away, after the NFL released each team's opponents. The full schedule with days and times will be released later, likely in the spring.

Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini stressed the importance of his team avoiding in the Capital One Bowl the same self-inflicted mistakes that hurt the Huskers in their first Big Ten season.

Nuggets, playing on third consecutive night, rally to beat Milwaukee
The Nuggets' legs were weary on this, their third game in three nights. Grinding out a win was the order of the night.

George Karl on Nuggets' 3-point shooting: "Keep shooting. Fire them, baby!"
Before Sunday's game, Altitude TV's Chris Marlowe – he of Bosom Buddies fame – asked George Karl about the Nuggets' 3-point shooting. The Nuggets hadn't been actually making 3-pointers, so Marlowe asked George what George would tell his team. "Keep shooting. Fire them, baby!" Karl said. "They're wide open. I'm not giving up on them."

David Carey, missing from the Montbello boys basketball bench since mid-December, won't return.

New Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer fielding fans' questions
The Rockies don’t usually make a big splash in free agency, but they made an exception when they signed former Minnesota Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer to a three-year, $31.5 million contract. Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd is convinced Cuddyer will thrive as the team’s everyday right fielder, scorching line drives into the alleys at Coors

On the bright side, possibly the worst team ever to make the NFL playoffs actually won its first-round game.
