USC's Matt Barkley takes place among elite college QBs
With the quality of college football in Colorado dropping as fast as our temperatures, fans are reduced to wallowing in the greatness of those who visit. Unfortunately for Colorado, junior quarterback Matt Barkley likely isn't even the best player on Southern California.

Today's Avalanche

Avalanche coach Sacco shuffling his top lines
Avalanche coach Joe Sacco on Thursday moved Matt Duchene to the same line as the team's highest-paid player, Paul Stastny. For tonight's game against the Dallas Stars, Duchene will skate at left wing on a line with Stastny, with veteran Milan Hejduk on the right side.

All Things Avs

Here is your video snippet of new Duchene-Stastny-Hejduk line, but what do we call it?
What should we call this line? My nomination: The “Eggs All in One Basket” line. I kid. We all know what the best line has been with the Avalanche this season, and it’s the OWL Line – O’Reily-Winnik-Landeskog. OK I hate that name too. But I saw it somewhere, and some Avs fans are going

Today's Broncos

Broncos take a peek at quarterback future
Ah, who are the Broncos kidding? It's not too early to start thinking quarterback for the 2012 season. The Broncos are 2-5 this season and an NFL-worst 8-25 in the past two calendar years.

Elway, Xanders watch Cal practice today
Andrew Luck wan’t the only excuse for John Elway to get out of the office. Elway, the Hall of Fame quarterback and boss of the Broncos’ football operations, and team general manager Brian Xanders are scouting the Northern California colleges this week. Elway and Xanders scouted the University of California’s practice Thursday. Xanders has been

Today's Nuggets

Dissolving of union a threat to NBA labor talks
Negotiations to end the NBA lockout will resume Saturday amid a new threat to labor peace: a disillusioned faction of players. About 50 players, including some all-stars, are planning a drive to dissolve their union if talks again falter or if the talks produce a deal that they deem unpalatable, according to a person who has spoken with the group.

Today's Post Preps

Loveland's Hammen enjoying the ride
It wasn't all that long ago when Claire Hammen attended her first Loveland High School gymnastics meet and knew that someday she would like a chance to wear the red and black.

Today's Rockies

Former Giants outfielder Matty Alou passes away at 72
Matty Alou, once part of an all-Alou outfield for the San Francisco Giants with brothers Felipe and Jesus, died Thursday in his native Dominican Republic. He was 72.

Dave Krieger

Dave Krieger: O'Dowd: Internal issues to blame
If you're looking for a blockbuster trade from the Rockies as the hot- stove league gets underway, you'll have to Google it. It happened in July, when they traded Ubaldo Jimenez.

Woody Paige

Woody Paige: Plenty of blame to go around for Broncos' 2-5 record
Jean de La Fontaine, a 17th century French poet, believed: "Luck's always to blame." Truly, should Andrew Luck be blamed for the Broncos' troubles?
