Morning headlines from DenverPost.com

Today's Local Politics

Colorado legislature, school districts debate effectiveness of having struggling students repeat a grade
It can be emotional and controversial, but Colorado may soon find out whether the prospect of retention — having struggling students repeat a grade rather than have "social promotion" move them on with their peers — might also spur parents and schools to more effectively focus on early literacy.

Today's Entertainment

Theater review: "American Idiot" a show for idiots, and wannabe idiots, too
Maybe the least flattering thing you can say about "American Idiot," with its indictment of Bush-era politics, is that it is kinder and gentler than you might expect. Punk rock on the Broadway stage? Well, yes, though it's not so threatening.

Today's Style

Show: Fashionable paper dolls
Set creative types loose with some simple materials and there's no telling what they'll come up with. That's the premise behind the March 15 Paper Fashion Show, sponsored by the Art Directors Club of Denver.

Today's Opinion

Murphy: Here's hoping for the end of "The Line" at Colorado Labor and Employment office
Light snow and freezing drizzle were falling as I approached the state Labor and Employment office on East 12th Avenue in downtown Denver at 6:05 a.m. Given the weather and the fact that the doors would not open for another 85 minutes, I assumed I was early. Not even close.
