Rockies option Ottavino to make room for Friedrich
SAN DIEGO — Options create protection. Adam Ottavino, who did not allow a run in 2 2/3 innings, was sent back to Triple-A Colorado Springs to clear a roster spot for Wednesday’s starter Christian Friedrich. In a limited sample, Ottavino has outpitched fellow right-hander Esmil Rogers, but Rogers does not have any minor league options
